- We are taking a break! -
During 2023, Heavenly Roots Farm will be taking a hiatus from commercial vegetable production. Thank you Salt Spring Island for supporting our venture for the last 8 years!
About
Us
Benjamin Corno & Kaleigh Barton
We are a farming couple, growing fruits and vegetables on 4 acres of leased land at the Burgoyne Valley Community Farm on Salt Spring Island, BC.
We market our produce through weekly farmer's markets, a CSA program, and provide select crops wholesale to stores, restaurants and caterers. We are also growers for the BCEcoSeed Co-operative, a farmer-run, co-operative seed company.
We are pursuing a production method that makes ecology and sustainability a priority. We grow without synthetic pesticides or herbicides, and we enrich our soil with compost, manure, mulching and cover cropping. Our main farm-site is off-grid and features a large gravity-fed irrigation system. This is low tech, hand powered farming!
This season, it is our endeavour to sow our crops using only organic or ecologically grown, open-pollinated seeds grown on small farms in our bio-region: British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. We grow many of our own seeds and are committed to supporting our local and regional seed systems.
Now entering our seventh year of production, our mission is to provide a wide selection of exceptional produce while making a positive impact in our community. We are grateful to all of our past, present and future customers who value the connection that local food brings. Thank you for enabling us to do what we believe in!
